What’s the worst that could happen?
Have you ever asked this question and then found out that the world has a far worse answer than you could have imagined? We often think the worst thing that could happen would be that others would know how messed up we really are. We imagine showing our true vulnerable selves to another human and having them reject us. The truth is way worse than this though. We live a life where we never feel truly loved because no one really knows us and we think their love would lesson if they knew the truth. We feel lonely and as if the whole world has got it all together and we are the only one struggling. The truth is we need to find ways to share our mess with those around us. They all have things going on in their lives too. They are playing the same game, trying to hold back the world from seeing their troubles too.
Church is supposed to be a place where we find the deep relationships where we can be our true selves. Where others know us and love us for who we are. Ecclesiastes 4 says:
9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
10 If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
If we never let anyone in we will never have someone to help us up again. We will also miss out on the blessing of helping someone else up when they need it. This weekend challenge yourself to go deeper in a relationship you have here at FSJ Alliance. Share something with someone and listen for someone to share something with you. Don’t imagine the worst that could happen, dream about the amazing things God could do.
