In A.W Tozer’s Of God and Men, He puts forward the idea that we need better Christians. Immediately we bristle at this thought. There are no levels of Christians, are there? We are all justified and forgiven by Christ so why should we rank Christians against one another. Well that isn’t what Tozer is actually asking us to do. He is asking us to grow, to move along the never-ending path towards Christ likeness. All too often we become stagnant in our walk with Christ. We don’t want to do the work that it takes to change. We want to be comfortable, to take it easy. That is what our hearts actually long for.

So what can we do to keep growing? We can ask God to “Create in me a pure heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me”(Psalm 51:10). We can ask that he would give us hearts that actually want to be transformed. Hearts that are willing to put in the effort to change. And maybe more importantly, a spirit that will stay the course as God stretches us and pushes us out of our comfort zone. We are so often unwilling to change but it is the type of change we never regret. Will you commit to being a better Christian? Will you ask God to give you the desire needed to be a better Christian? Not better than anyone else, but better than the one you are today.
