Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live.
Deuteronomy 4:9a
It’s hard to believe another ministry year has come and gone. It’s also hard to believe that it’s been over a year since our church vision statement was unveiled. I don’t know about you, but I’ve really enjoyed diving into where God is leading our church through the various sermons and activities throughout this past ministry year.
As we move into the summer months, it’s easy to forget about what we’ve learned and how God has worked in our lives and church community. It’s easy to take the vision statement and all that God revealed to us over this past year and stick it up on the shelf.
Much like the children of Israel getting ready to go into the promised land, we can be tempted to forget what the Lord has done. Moses encouraged the Israelites numerous times in his last words to them not to forget. He knew these people were the generation that only knew how to wander in the desert and were going to face many new threats, distractions and temptations.
While heading into the summer isn’t quite on the same level with what the Israelites were facing, we still face temptations to get distracted and out of routine just as they did. But just like the Israelites, God wants to keep working in us as individuals and as a church. He hasn’t brought us this far just for us to forget.
So what will we do? Will we place the last year on a shelf to collect dust, or will we forge ahead with renewed excitement and anticipation of what the Lord has done here at FSJAC?
